2017 London Wine Fair set to be ‘game changer’ for global technology

This year\'s London Wine Fair will see the wine industry reach the tipping point in its use of online data.

This year's London Wine Fair will see the wine industry reach the tipping point in its use of online data.  Over 39,000 individual searches have taken place on the Bottlebooks online director so far – a 56% increase on last year.  The information-rich data, will see this year’s Fair become the most technologically advanced drinks event in the world.

Nearly 5,000 wines have registered for this year’s LWF online directory, providing vital information for buyers across all sectors. 70% of wines have tasting notes, 66% have bottles shots, 61% show ABV and 40% have more detailed analytics, such as residual sugar values.  Data shows that 60% of wines at this year’s Fair are “Retail Ready”, giving visiting buyers a head start on all the resources required to list a wine or build technical sheets, such as analytics and, in particular, photography.  Although the information is specifically for wines at this year’s Fair, the information can be accessed year-round, providing a vital resource platform for all wine trade professionals.

According to the search criteria, which sees visitors most likely to search by a region, English wine producers are set to see a record footfall at their stands this year. According to Bottlebooks Co-Founder and CEO Jonathan Harclerode, “there appears to be exceptionally strong interest in English Wines this year. Last year, they were significantly further down the list. This year they are at number five, and if you look just at wine searches, “English Wine” is the second most popular search region at this year’s Fair.”  Visitors to the show have been accessing, on average, twice the amount of content compared to 2016, illustrating a real engagement with this technology.

Event Director, Ross Carter, comments: “We appreciate the effort that so many of our exhibitors have invested to prepare content for this year. Because we use Bottlebooks to collate and publish our online directory, this content is immediately available to the entire UK trade to use in their online shops, technical sheets, and print marketing materials.  We have always strived to make The Fair something that is relevant to the trade beyond three days in May, and we feel this year-round platform does precisely that.”

About Bottlebooks
Bottlebooks reinvents how wine information is exchanged by automating product content collection and management. Importers, distributors, and retailers can easily collect product and logistics content from their suppliers worldwide and publish trade portals, technical sheets, and catalogs.

Since the previous London Wine Fair, Bottlebooks has grown to a community of over 8,000 brands and businesses and has welcomed several additional noteworthy partners to the project including Conviviality and Wines of South Africa.

Bottlebooks was founded in 2013 by Jonathan Harclerode, former Senior Manager in Accenture’s Emerging Technology Innovation practice. During his more than 11 years at Accenture, he helped some of the world’s leading organizations shape and deliver innovation strategies.  He soon began working with German producers to create a data portal to send comprehensive wine information to partners. This grew into a beta version released to power local wine information needs and events in Germany enabling rich producer-entered data. In 2015, the product took a significant step forward, increasing greatly the number of producers and distributors using the system and expanding into the UK.  Bottlebooks announced an official partnership with the London Wine Fair in February 2016.
